Reflection on the Silent Retreat

By Hampton Tucker

Recently, the Fellows went on a 3-day silent retreat at a retreat center near Greensboro. For our time there, we had many hours allotted to solitary, silent reflection and prayer. For me, these quiet hours were mostly spent in nature. In my time wandering through the Carolina woodland, I found my senses being drawn into aspects of God's creation that I am too hurried to notice in my day-to-day life. Birds calling, streams flowing, and squirrels digging up acorns all suddenly showed me the goodness and love of God that he lavishes upon all parts of Creation, including me. Having a slowness of schedule for these few days allowed me to recenter my scattered senses upon God's presence.
