Reflection on her job
In just a few short weeks, I have come to truly love my job and look forward to coming into work each day. I am working at the CSD (Community School of Davidson) upper school in an EC (Exceptional Children) classroom as an assistant teacher. There are 5 students in the class with a range of abilities and high support needs. I came in with endless questions about whether I was equipped to handle this role, how it could inform my next career steps, and what the Lord could have in store for me this year. In those first few days of uncertainty, small moments of connection with the students motivated me to keep trying. Something as small as a student reaching out to take my hand while we were on a walk meant everything to me. Slowly, my confidence grew as my relationships with the students and other teachers grew. I was beginning to see how this role could answer some of my big questions about what gifts the Lord had given me and how he wanted me to use them. Just this past week, I had the opportunity to teach two students a lesson on the alphabet. As I sat with them, laughing and learning together, I had a moment of realization that I was just simply having so much fun. I really could see myself teaching students with disabilities as a career and loving it. I am so looking forward to the rest of this year and how much more I have the potential to learn from this job.
