Reflection on Community
By Addie Anderson
A large part of why I chose to do the Fellows program was because of my desire and passion for community. A huge part of starting young adult life is leaving the in-place communities of college and having to branch out into the world. For me, community is so important, and to have a built-in community within the Fellows has been vital to my year here. The town of Davidson itself has a wonderful community atmosphere: town events, local shops and running clubs. Having gone to Davidson College, stepping outside of the college and into the town has been so lovely. The community of Storyhill has furthermore blown me away. On our first night, going to the Welcome Dinner with many church members surrounding us in support and praying over us, despite not knowing us, showed me just how cared for and supported we were by our church community — even before they truly knew us. Throughout the year countless of individuals and families have welcomed us into their homes to live and for dinner, given us life and faith lessons, mentored us and prayed for us. Spending time with my fellow Fellows throughout my weeks has given me a group of friends I get to grow with in faith and personally, supporting each other through the highs and lows. I will truly be forever grateful for the community of Storyhill Church and my fellow Fellows for helping to shape me in such a transformative year of my life.
