Reflection on Serving

By Cristian Pinto

Serving with Caterpillar Ministries on Thursdays in the Latino community has been a great blessing in my life.

When I started, I was excited to be able to serve with the boys and girls. As a Latino whose first language is Spanish, I thought it would be more natural for me to serve in the Latino community.I was surprised that, although many come from Latino parents and understand Spanish, there are some that primarily speak English. When they communicate, they sometimes mix Spanish and English, which confused me a little at first and made it difficult for me to talk to them. This led me to think about how, as children, they make such a great effort to communicate with other people and how difficult it can be for others to understand their needs.

When I think about that, I really admire the children with whom I share every Thursday and love them even more. That despite cultural or language difficulties, they are there ready to have fun and share with anyone around them.

I go to Caterpillar Ministries with the intention of sharing Jesus, but I have realized that they brighten my day and many times, they are the ones who share Jesus with me.  In such a simple, tender and very admirable way, the kids teach me more about Him every week.

I hope that they can grow and know more about God and His love, and that they can spread that simple and tender way of living to the people around them as they have done to me.
