Reflection on Class

By Madeline Weatherill

Throughout my Fellows year, Thursdays have become one of my favorite days of the week. One of the things that makes Thursdays so special is our seminary-level class in the afternoon. We’ve been going through a survey of the entire Bible and discussing it as a drama of scripture. Each week, I am challenged by a new perspective on a passage I thought I knew well, or by a thought-provoking question posed by a fellow Fellow. It’s amazing to dive deep into scripture with a community that encourages questions, differing perspectives, and new insights.

In our first class of the second semester, we explored wisdom literature, specifically Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes. Through Proverbs, we learned that wisdom is a skill in the art of godly living—holistic, improvisational, both a responsibility and a gift. We also discussed how we can apply wisdom in our friendships and community. These discussions have not only challenged my faith but have also helped me better appreciate the resources God has given us to live well.
